Biography

Ms. Baraa Atallah is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at Khalifa University. She holds an M.Sc. degree in Chemistry from The Hashemite University, Jordan, in 2016 with First-Class Honors, and a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from the same institution, in 2014 with First-Class Honors.

Prior to joining Khalifa University, Ms. Atallah held academic positions at The Hashemite University in Jordan, the American University of Sharjah and the University of Sharjah in the UAE, and the University of Doha for Science and Technology in Qatar. She has extensive experience in higher education, teaching undergraduate chemistry courses, course coordination, curriculum development, assessment, and student mentoring.

Ms. Atallah’s research experience spans coordination and organometallic chemistry, and environmental chemistry. Her research has included the synthesis and characterization of ruthenium(II) and gold organometallic complexes, supported by spectroscopic and solid-state characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Her research interests also include the application of low-cost materials for the removal of environmental contaminants, including dyes and heavy metal ions, from aqueous systems. Her research work has resulted in publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Polyhedron and Organometallic Chemistry. She has also presented her research at the Sixth International Conference on Water, Energy and Environment, held at the American University of Sharjah in March 2019.
