Emrah Demir is Professor of Operational Research in the Department of Management Science and Engineering at Khalifa University. Before joining Khalifa University, he was Professor of Operational Research at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University, where he also served as Director of the Business & Economics Artificial Intelligence Research (BEAR) Network. He previously held an Assistant Professor position at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on operational research, artificial intelligence, logistics and transportation, particularly sustainable logistics, vehicle routing and scheduling, freight decarbonization, and human-AI collaborative decision-making. His work combines mathematical optimization, heuristics and metaheuristics, and machine learning to address complex real-world decision problems. Professor Demir has published extensively in leading international journals, secured research funding from national and international organizations, and led interdisciplinary academic and industry collaborations. He also contributes to the international Operational Research community through editorial roles with journals including the Journal of Heuristics, OR Spectrum, IMA Journal of Management Mathematics, Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, and Frontiers in Future Transportation.
